New Horizons Shelter & Outreach Centers added some significant funding to their programs for providing services and supports to victims of domestic abuse, sexual assault, and human trafficking at their annual fundraiser, “Handbags for a SAFE Haven” this past Thursday.

The event comprised of a silent auction of designer handbags, raffles, fashion show, and an upcycled handbags bazaar pulled in nearly $16,000 net for the organization. That figure is more than twice the amount raised in 2017.

“With August marking our 40th anniversary, we are thrilled to see the community support of this event—particularly the business community that really came through with donations for this year’s event,” Executive Director Ann Kappauf stated.

Marine Credit Union was the presenting sponsor of the event, with additional support from Ted Mannstedt & Son, Ho-Chunk Gaming in Black River Falls, Logisitics Health Inc., and the law firm of Hale, Skemp, Hanson, Skemp, & Sleik.

New Horizons Shelter & Outreach Centers operate out of a main office in La Crosse, with a satellite location in Trempealeau County, providing shelter for individuals and families who have experienced domestic and sexual abuse. Organized in 1978 through the cooperative efforts of an informal group of citizens in the La Crosse the organization and mission has grown substantially since that time, now reaching out to victims of sexual abuse, human-trafficking, and more.
