Denim Day
Denim Day is observed annually on the last Wednesday of April as a powerful statement against victim blaming and in support of survivors of sexual violence. The campaign began in response to a 1998 Italian court ruling that overturned a rape conviction because the justices felt that since the victim was wearing tight jeans, she must have helped her rapist remove them, thereby implying consent. The day has since grown into a global statement of solidarity. By wearing denim, individuals and organizations send a clear message that consent can never be implied based on clothing.
High School Seniors are encouraged to apply for our Denim Day Scholarship. Learn more here.

Coming Up…DVAM!
Every October, New Horizons joins organizations nationwide in recognizing Domestic Violence Awareness Month (DVAM) – a time to honor survivors, raise awareness, and take collective action to end domestic violence in our communities.
DVAM began in October 1987, alongside the launch of the National Domestic Violence Hotline. It originated from the “Day of Unity,” created by the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence to bring advocates together in solidarity. What started as a single day has grown into a powerful, month-long movement to amplify survivor voices, educate the public, and push for systems that uphold safety, equity, and justice for all.
Although summer is just rolling in and October might feel moons away, we’re already in full planning mode for the exciting things ahead for DVAM! Click HERE to learn more.
