2025 Holiday Program

For many, the holiday season brings warmth, laughter, and time with loved ones. But for the individuals and families staying in our shelter, this time of year can look very different. It can be a season of mixed emotions – grief for what’s been lost, fear of the unknown, and hope for a new beginning.

At New Horizons, we strive to make the holidays a little brighter for every survivor we serve. Much of what we do during this time wouldn’t be possible without the incredible generosity of our community and our dedicated holiday sponsors. Many of our sponsors return year after year, looking forward to bringing joy to survivors and their families on Christmas morning.

How It Works

Beginning in October, our Youth and Family Advocate meets with clients to create personalized holiday wish lists – including both needs and a few special wishes. Each individual or family is then thoughtfully matched with a sponsor.

The first two weeks of December, lovingly known around here as Sponsor Weeks, are a whirlwind of giving and gratitude. Our Youth and Family Advocate leads the program with passion and care, often staying late to meet with sponsors dropping off gifts or with clients picking them up. She’s easy to spot – always in a festive sweater – spreading holiday cheer everywhere she goes.

Being able to make this season special brings hope and comfort not only to our clients, but also to our staff and volunteers who witness the power of community kindness firsthand.
