2024 Denim Day Scholarship

Amount:  Two scholarships of $500 each

Eligibility: Students at UW La Crosse, Viterbo University, Western Technical College, Winona State University, St. Mary’s University, and MN State College Southeast

Length requirement: 500-700 words or a 3-4 minute video

Deadline: May 15, 2024

Requirements

The scholarship will be awarded to the student contingent upon enrollment verification at a higher education institution. The check will be paid directly to that institution. The winning essays or videos may be published on the New Horizons website and/or social media platforms.

Prompt

Examine the bystander effect as it pertains to sexual assault prevention and intervention. Discuss the challenges and implications of bystander inaction in instances of sexual violence. In your essay, analyze factors that contribute to bystander apathy and explore potential strategies for empowering bystanders to take effective action in preventing and responding to sexual assault.

Submission

The essay or video is due by Wednesday, May 15, at 11:59 PM CST. Essays and videos can be written or recorded in English, Hmong, or Spanish.
